Here’s my standard disclaimer. I received a free copy of this title from the Author in exchange for an honest review. A rating will follow this review on Goodreads and on Amazon.
I review books based on the story itself. I’m not an editor and I’m not reading these books to proof them for Authors. I’ve read classics & best sellers with mistakes in them. The only time I will let mistakes effect my review is if the mistakes make reading the book cumbersome. At that point, I will just give it a lower number rating while reviewing the actual story itself.
I don’t like reading a review that is basically the back cover blurb, or something that gives away too much of the story. Personally, I like suspense. I like to discover the details of the story as I read them. So, please enjoy this spoiler free book review!
I’m happy to announce that the twenty second book that I’m reviewing on my blog is a book called Z Towers: An Apocalyptic Plague: MADE IN THE U.S.A. by Jay Zano.
Z Towers: An Apocalyptic Plague: MADE IN THE U.S.A. is a dark humor, thriller & suspense, satire story about a deadly plague that is manufactured in America. This story takes place in an alternate universe that involves some of our current political issues. In the story, we find Tyson and his coworker friends trying to escape from a zombie filled tower. Zook Towers to be exact, as the towers of this building are named after the antagonist, Fredrick J. Zook. Zook is a billionaire failed presidential candidate, and is the reason why Tyson and his friends are fighting for their lives.
The story is centered around an apocalyptic plague let loose on the unsuspecting guests and workers of Zook Towers. This plague turns people into zombies, and the few remaining survivors have to fight for their lives. Not only do they have to survive the onslaught of zombies, they have to survive a massive cover up. A cover up that will only work if there are no survivors. Tyson and his band of friends find themselves in some very nerve wracking and morbidly funny situations. They encounter one hazardous situation after another on their quest to rescue other survivors like Zoe, while trying to escape zombies and find safety behind the military’s cordon.
This isn’t your ordinary zombie story. Many “zom poc” stories have former or current military members or members of law enforcement as the hero. Tyson is an inconspicuous IT worker who finds himself in a deadly scenario. He rises to the task and performs adequately, considering that his only experience with violence involves gaming platforms.
Overall, I liked the story. A few humans fight for survival against incredible odds, and there were a few laughs along the way. I recommend this book to others who like dark humor, thriller & suspense, stories and don’t mind political satire thrown in. I rate this book 4 out of 5!
